The World in 1913

A further revision of An Alternate History of the Netherlands.

  1. What the heck happened to the USA?

    1. Yeah, it pained me to do that.

With New Amsterdam sitting right there, Britain's American colonies would be divided into New England, and the Southern Colonies. If Mass. caused trouble, would Virginia even care? Would any sort of commonality develop between two regions if they were not geographically connected by New York? I thought further on it, and decided would there even be troubles in Boston in the 1770s? The taxes were brought about because of defending the colonies during the war. With New Amsterdam sitting there, would there even be a French and Indian War (without that, would there even be a Seven Years War?)? I'm working towards a more "realistic" history for publication, so I had to stop and think about it.

The South did rebel, but only when Britain tried to end slavery in the 1820s/30s. New England couldn't care less about it. I'm not sure if I should keep it looking like a confederation, or just making each state it's own independent country. Dividing it might not make sense culturally.
